Burton Bradstock itself, and the villages and towns within a 10-mile radius, offer a wide selection of Inns and Restaurants with a good choice of food to suit most tastes and all budgets. The Three Horseshoes Inn is literally just a stone’s throw from Brookside cottage. This traditional country pub (with real log fire) offers local Palmer’s real ales, lagers, ciders and wines. The reasonably priced menu includes locally sourced seasonally available fish and game. Also in Burton Bradstock village itself is the Anchor Inn - an award winning restaurant, renowned for superb seafood dishes, much of which is caught locally. Just a ten minute walk across the coastal cliffs is the Hive Beach Café, which is situated right on the National Trust beach. Featured in Rick Stein’s BBC1 Seafood Lovers’ Guide, the Hive is well-known for its seafood delicacies and is given four stars by AA Gill in the Sunday Times (May 2005). There are many pubs and restaurants a short drive away in West Bay and Bridport including Indian, Thai and Chinese cuisine. Worth a mention is the famous Riverside Restaurant in West Bay which is famed for its freshly caught seafood and featured in many guidebooks. Only 15 miles (20 minutes by car or taxi) away is the headquarters of River Cottage, popularised by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s TV series. At their HQ. there are workshops, seminars and events and it is home to their renowned restaurant. All the restaurants featured tend to be very busy, particularly in the high season, so it is advisable to book well in advance if possible. |
